Has that 4000rpm thing completely gone away since you've replaced your new leaking carb-mount? If the valve isn't working at all, and is leaking fuel, it might explain your other problems. This could explain the difficulty starting, and maybe the extreme over-revving when it does fire, but somehow lots of extra air must also be involved, as someone on Briskoda says. I *think* that if this valve is faulty there may be a continuous fuel leak directly into the inlet manifold. The diaphragm was very stiff and brittle compared to the new one. When I refurbished my 2e2 I included this part, even though I had no trouble with it. needed to refurbish it so don't spend any money. What I can say about the 'power valve' is that I surely have one on a spare carb that you would be welcome to, and - I think - the gaskets/diaphragms etc. I've just had a quick read of the thread you linked. I'll have to have a look and see if people on there are as rude about them as here. I didn't realise that any Skodas had used Pierburg carbs. Strangely, I was just looking at Briskoda, as my girlfriend has just got a Mk1 Fabia.
